 Re: Good LAN gents...
I can understand the frustration at Eve being played since there have been comments in the past about the amount of people playing WoW... neither of which I'm interested in. However I think it's only fair that Eve is treated the same way as WoW and people who want to play it are treated in the same way... i.e. it's their choice. Staff rarely get to play the games they want to play at LANs and ChilLAN is that one chance. It's not my choice to play Eve and I would of liked to see other things played but that's purely from a selfish point of view. I think it's only fair that people who want to play Eve are allowed to without being made to feel bad about it. There was plenty of people not playing it who could of got games together. I tried to get some CoD4 on the go and had a couple of announcements and yet there was maybe 5 people in total playing if you were lucky.

 Re: Good LAN gents...
The only time at LAN I'll bust out the World of Warcraft is if theres fuck all else going. Unless im in the middle of something big in WoW (instance BG, etc..) Then I'll jump at the chance to join a big game of something. Nothing beats some good old TF2 or CoD4 GumpCom style.

 Re: Good LAN gents...
I tried CoD4 as well, you were lucky to get 5; it was me, Sven and Oppslock Ach well, I sounded like a negative nancy but it was just a disappointing LAN compared to the rest I've been to

 Re: Good LAN gents...
We could address issues of people not playing all the same game at once by organising big games and tournaments. To encourage people to play in the tournaments we could give them wee prizes. Nothing too extravagant. An Aquila trophy or something! We could schedule the tournaments at set times to maximise the number of people playing them. Of course this would make the LAN a bit more competitive so lets drop the "ChilLAN" part.
OK, that's probably a bit too sarcastic but you know what I'm getting at. The ChilLANs are separate to the "normal" LANs for a reason - to give people to play games differently out with the tournament format. Games that wouldn't normally be played at a LAN - MMOs and an abundance of console games included.
I ain't gonna "defend" why I played so much EVE but I will say we played with other people at the LAN, and other Gumpcom members. The occasion offered a rare opportunity for a lot of my friends to play the same game at the same time in the same place. Surely that's the very essence of a LAN Party?
Anyway. Maybe we need to look at scheduling games at ChilLANs so people don't get bored. I think there's a balance to be struck. We don't want the ChilLANs to evolve into what the "normal" LANs. Maybe more of the "lets all jump on TF2 right fucking now!" kinda idea.

 Re: Good LAN gents...
I think the idea of ChilLANs is good. It let's everyone, including staff, play what they like. I don't think we should change it. While I sympathise with neillyb's point of view that there wasn't enough other stuff going on because people were playing Eve that's only because I don't want to play Eve. I think it's only fair that everyone, including staff, get to play what they like even if it's not to my taste.

 Re: Good LAN gents...
Question - what is the difference between playing Eve at a Lan (through ventrilo) and playing it at home (through ventrilo), from what I understand it gets played most night by a few members and they all meet up regularly online to do the Eve thing - I don't really see why playing it at the lan would make it extra special! I thought you guys might have taken a break from it and played some other big games...clearly I don't have the Eve bug

 Re: Good LAN gents...
What's the difference with playing any game at a LAN (through ventrillo) and playing it at home (through ventrillo)....? Are we desconstructing the whole idea of a LAN here?

 Re: Good LAN gents...
I totally agree and I hope I didn't cause anyone to think that I expected anyone to not play any game I didn't like, haha

I know the difference. Instead of beating seven bells out off someone halfway round the world whom you have never met, you get to do it to someone your sitting beside or across from. Great fun.

 Re: Good LAN gents...
As I've already explained this in the other post, I'll offer an alternative point of view. Ventrilo doesn't (yet) allow you to look into the eyes of someone you've just fucked over. LAN Parties do And what's this illusion that those who played EVE somehow stuck at it for 48 hours?! I played a lot of Total War and Left for Dead too. Obviously the monitor-what-everyone-else-is-playing-device wasn't working then

 Re: Good LAN gents...
I love the lans cause theres nothing better than screaming across the hall at someone whos sniped you for the 4th time and got the domination. Then when you get the revenge-stab its so more satisfying to be able to stand up and give a cheeky wee smirk.
And to Gump: No ones asking you to defend why you played EvE so much. ChilLan is the only real chance you guys get to play it all together, and the only chance you get to really play anything because yous are usually really busy at normal GumpComs. Besides, its called GUMPcom, you started it, you play what the fuck you want. lol.

Otherwise known as, we should look around us more often to see what others are playing.

Hahaha! Why the sudden attack on Eve getting played at the LAN? C'mon guys it's just a game, People can play whatever for how ever long they want, Exceptionally at a chillLAN. I find this soooo funny, i haven't/didn't complain once about it being played ALOT & Eve is all i see and hear about everyday of the week. I've lost my boyfriend and pretty much all mates to it... Who cares? Not me! Anyway good LAN Guys!

 Re: Good LAN gents...
We never did get that game of Multiwinia Probably my fault, was pretty engrossed in games of Supreme Commander with Barrie, Lithgow and Nick all weekend. Worms was good fun though, we should have played more of that.

 Re: Good LAN gents...
I played some decent L4D, a wee bit of TF2, lots of SupCom/Forged Alliance and some NWN2. I socialised with people I hadn't seen properly for a while and I had an all-round good time.
Job's a good 'un.
Things I would have liked to add in: A decent sized game of BF2, maybe some more large TF2 games (pl_badwater!) and a gun to shoot the cunt messing with the rock band volume. Oh, and more folk playing SupCom!
